joshy207 asked: Hey man, I absolutely loved Longshot Saves. Phenomenal. I'm just not sure I get some of it, and was wondering if you could help. Specifically, when he uses psychometry and sees the red versions of things, him using the cube, then the blue version. I suppose it's to show that his luck balances things: either the guy keeps entering the lottery or dies, and Ock is discovered or he gets to kill. Is it that Longshot wielding the cube, is actually responsible for the events as they occur on the right?
Hey, thank you very much! For everyone else following along, you’re referring to page 9 of issue 4. I totally get how it’s confusing, so here is the explanation! SPOILERS DUDES
What’s going on here is that Longshot’s blood has been spilled onto the Earth, and he is overwhelmed by psychometric memories. What we’re seeing is that again and again, Longshot’s luck has granted him possession of this cosmic cube, much like all the weird coincidences in issue 1 brought it to him. He keeps using it to change reality to help someone out, in major ways and trivial ones, (He removed Sonja’s abusive husband from her life, he stopped Spider-Ock’s discovery, he keeps a building from being burned down, stops a cat from falling out of a building, makes Santiago win the lottery, etc)
Every time it happens, Longshot and the rest of the universe forget the old reality, and so every time Longshot gets the cube, he thinks it’s the first time he’s used it. But with the psychometry, he finally remembers everything, and then sees that his abuse of the cube threw balance out of check, and the pendulum swung the other way (the abusive husband moves on to someone else, Spidey-Ock kills Massacre, the building is taken over by a gang, the cat gives someone rabies, Santiago gets killed by the Inbetweener etc)
